While the porridge is traditionally cooked with water and maize flour (unga ya mahindi) you can opt for oats and simmer them in your favourite type of milk for a creamier taste.

If you’re looking for easy breakfast ideas, you can’t do better than a smoothie. Smoothies are a breakfast favourite in that they’re fast, delicious and incredibly versatile!
While everyone knows they’re a great way to pack in several servings of fruit, they’re also a great way to eat more veggies, too! You can easily sneak in a handful of spinach, half an avocado, some sprouts, or even some frozen broccoli or cauliflower without anyone becoming the wiser!
Top tip — add in a scoop of nut butter for a blast of protein-packed deliciousness that will keep you energised all morning long.
There’s a reason that this breakfast trend is so universally beloved — it’s as versatile as it is delicious.
Whether you’re on team sourdough, multigrain, focaccia or ciabatta, pop a slice into the toaster, mush some ripe avocado over the top and then let your creativity take over!
While a squeeze of lemon and some salt and pepper keep this breakfast dish deliciously simple, a quick Instagram search for avocado toast will quickly confirm that everyone’s got their own preferred version.
